Music Video- Editing

Firstly, I had to create a new project in Adobe Premiere Pro. I changed the name to 'Everything Lies' so that it will be easily recongised in my B drive.
I changed the available preset to DV-PAL, Widescreen 48kHz. This enables my video to be in widescreen once uploaded onto YouTube.
One I have set the settings correctly, the screenshot above will be shown where you can begin editing. In order for the footage to be imported into Adobe Premiere Pro, you have to go into 'File', 'Import' and select which footage you would like to import. Once you have imported the footage it will be displayed on the left hand side and then can be placed on the time line in order for it to be edited.

This screenshot shot shows the footage once it has been placed on the timeline, to place it on the timeline  you have to drag it from the left hand side. Using the tools on the bottom right I edited my footage. The main tool which I used was the razor tool, this tool allowed me to cut up the footage and create quick, sharp cuts.  Throughout our music video we tried to ensure that none of our shots lasted longer than 3 seconds as we wanted to adhere to this convention of pop music videos.

This screenshot shows our music video once we had changed  it to black and white. We changed our music video to black and white by using the special effects in the bottom left hand corner.  Initially we wasn't going to use black and white but due to the footage which we had collected it looked better in black and white. If we was able to complete our music video again we would only have the narrative in black and white, as this would separate the narrative from the singing and look more professional.

This screenshot shows a close up shot of how we change our music video to black and white. After selecting the black and white effect in the bottom left corner,  additional video effects are shown in the middle of this screenshot which can be changed. We was not required to change any other effects as we only wanted our music video in black and white.

This screenshot shows our music video once it had been rendered, to render the music video we had to ensure that the two arrows was at either ends and then you press enter.  Once you press enter, a rendering box is shown which shows the percentage the music video has been rendered.

Once our video had been render we was able to export the file. To export our music video we had to select 'file', 'export', 'movie'.

This screenshot shows how we exported the file, once clicked on 'file', 'export', you select 'Movie'.

Once you select 'Movie' the screenshot shown above is displayed where you can check all the settings are completed correctly. Once you've checked the settings you select 'OK'.

Once you select 'OK', Adobe Media Encoder is opened. You then 'Start Queue' which begins the exporting process. This software will export it to a file which YouTube will recognise  and therefore can be uploaded to YouTube.

Music Video Filming Day 1- Wednesday 28th September 2011

The filming went very well today and we managed to achieve all the shots which we aimed to film. The weather was very good and sunny, so we were able to film the outside shots successfully.

We added some additional shots and changed some of the shots which we set out in our storyboard, this was because some of the shots were not possible to shoot with the equipment we had. We will have to refilm at a later date as we did not having suitable lighting for some of the shots which will wanted to film. The shot which we need to film is the shot of Elena in the mirror as we need lighting under the mirror so we can see her face.

Preliminary Task, My Contributions

Whilst completing the Preliminary task I missed one lesson where the group was filming, as I knew I was going to miss the lesson the group and I ensured that I would not be in any of shots they were filming that day. During the planning stage, I helped deciding on the mise-en-scene, which we would need. Emmie and I did a brainstorm, came up with a variety of ideas, and selected the best one. During the filming stage, I filmed the clock, the bell shot and one of the locker shots of Zoran. Below are the sections, which I filmed:

The section which I lipsynched was one of the locker shots, below is a video of the section which I lipsynched.

For the editing section we were all split into groups of two, I worked with Thomas Cassidy. The section, which we edited, is 0-20 seconds, so it was fair we each did 10 seconds each. I did the first 10 seconds of the music video. Below is the section, which I edited.

Preliminary Task, Editing

For the editing part we was all split into groups of two, and we had 20 seconds of filming to edit between us. I worked with Thomas Cassidy and we each did 10 seconds of editing each. As we only had to edit a small section of film this didn't take very  long, me and Thomas had to edit the section 0-20 seconds. I had YouTube on my computer screen and Thomas had Adobe Premier Pro on his screen, this helped us both as we could keep referring back to the actual Britney music video. Overall, I felt I learnt valuable skills whilst doing this Preliminary Task which I will be able to transfer into my actual A2 music video. The whole group worked well as a team and we met the deadlines.

Preliminary Task

For our A2 Media Preliminary Task we were told to recreate a Britney Spears, Hit Me Baby One More Time video. We had to recreate 1 minute 20 seconds of the music video. All of our media class was able to work together to film the music video and once filmed we split up into twos to edit a small section of the video. During the Preliminary Task the class had to work well with each other and we all developed team working skills which will be useful when I film my own music video. Secondly, in the Preliminary Task we all had the opportunity to film, lip-synch and direct which I will have to do in my own music video. Also, in the Preliminary Task we all had to work to deadlines to ensure the music video was filmed and edited on time, I think that we all worked well with one another and the skills which I learnt will be beneficial for my A2 music video.
